Recruiting Jamal Reid
by admin
Brent Wilkerson and I have been at our respective locations (him Dixie
County, me The Sun) for what is now our 10th football seasons. He told
me after a 46-28 loss Friday night that Lafayette senior Jamal Reid
might be the best receiver he’s seen since he’s been with the Bears.
Thinking about it, I believe I agree with him.
Reid is listed at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, but he plays stronger than
that. He broke countless tackles in his six-catch, 223-yard,
three-touchdown outing against DCHS, and it wasn’t just defensive backs
who were the victims. His final score (from 45 yards out in the third
quarter) saw him break out of the grip of a linebacker and speed off
toward the end zone with a fast Bears’ secondary unable to do anything
but chase.
After the game Reid, also an outstanding cornerback, said he wasn’t
any closer to narrowing down his college choices as he was this past
summer. The only thing he knew for certain was that he was trying to
set up a visit to Oregon on the Hornets’ off week (Oct. 17).
Florida isn’t among the 20+ schools that have offered Reid a
scholarship at this point. No doubt the Gator coaches know exactly what
they are doing in recruiting, but I would encourage anyone to take a
Friday evening drive to a Lafayette game to draw your own conclusions.
He’s worth the price of admission.
