The word about Rodney Scott

by admin

In the world of recruiting, there often are rumors with no basis. Let’s dispel two about Dixie County’s all-state tailback Rodney Scott.

First, he has qualified academically.

Ignore any Web site or media outlet that says otherwise. He has his scores, and all he has to do is maintain his grade point average and graduate, just like any other prospect, as was previously reported by The Sun (http://www.gainesville.com/article/20080723/NEWS/439869794).

He found out the day of Florida’s Friday Night Lights camp.

“I was so excited I wanted to jump out of the car,” Scott said.

And second, contrary to a report at a Gator fan Web site, Scott does not have a scholarship offer from UF (also previously reported by The Sun in the same story above).

Coach Urban Meyer likes Scott and appears closer to offering now than a few weeks ago. However, as of this moment (6:39 p.m. on July 30), Scott is waiting.

“Not yet,” Scott said. “Coach Meyer said he’ll get in touch with my coach if they are going to offer. But they haven’t yet.”

Scott said he remains committed to Auburn, but admits the distance from home is making him not as sure as he once was. So, the possibility does exist he’ll end up somewhere closer. And yes, that could mean Florida.

Plain and simple, those are the facts.
