Local names in ‘09 NFL Draft
by admin
I’m a little bit of a draft geek.
So, I’ve been following NBA draft projections of late, and today, while I was tooling around online looking up bio information on a few of the SEC’s finest football players, I decided to see if anyone has done any 2009 mock NFL drafts.
Yeah, I know … what a loser.
Anyway, if the mock draft put together by CollegeFootballNews.com is an accurate indicator, next year’s first round could be the most significant ever locally.
The Web site lists former Union County (now Clemson junior) running back C.J. Spiller and former Hawthorne quarterback (now Florida senior tight end) Cornelius Ingram as probable top-30 picks.
To put that in perspective, the area has never had more than one first rounder in any draft. The last local first-rounder was former Suwannee and Miami cornerback Kelly Jennings to the Seattle Seahawks in 2006.
When C.I. and C.J. played in high school, I found them to not only be exceedingly talented, but each one of them is extremely bright and polite. And since they arrived in college, you haven’t heard a peep of trouble about either one of them.
I expect both guys to be very good pros and even better men. No doubt when they come into money Hawthorne and Lake Butler will benefit greatly from their generosity and love of their hometowns.
Anyway, back to looking at draft projections. Think any for 2010 are done yet?
