The award-winning Orlando Sentinel columnist is likely the most famous
Interlachen High School alum in history. But give Jamel Leonard a few
years and that could change.
The 5-foot-11, 245-pound junior running back is on rivals.com’s list of 100 national recruits to watch in the Class of 2009.
Combining power with 4.67 40-yard dash speed and a 29-inch vertical leap, Leonard is expected to be heavily coveted next year. Already, he lists Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Miami as his favorites. And a program that once was a punchline (the state’s longest-ever losing streak made it so) looks like it will be punching back hard.
Keep an eye on Interlachen football. College coaches certainly will.
