Volleyball All-Decade Team

by John Patton

Recently, we named Marcie Hampton our volleyball player of the decade and 2003 GHS as the volleyball team of the decade. Talking with Buchholz coach Jeff Reavis about the picks, he suggested compiling an all-decade team. Sounded good to me. I even added a second team.

Please feel free to respond with selections of your own (but be nice… we had some real, um, socially challenged folks respond a few months back to the all-decade boys basketball team, and these teams were not easy to choose).

My teams will include seven players in order to account for a libero. All players named were in the Classes of 2000-09. And I know there were a lot of great players that didn’t make either team. That’s why I’d love to see teams from all of you out there.

Here goes …

First team
OH/MB- Marcie Hampton, P.K. Yonge
OH- Michelle Stalbaum, GHS
MB- Taylor Williams, GHS
MB- Kelsey Bowers, GHS
S- Rose Burke, GHS
S/OH- Nirelle Hampton, P.K. Yonge
Libero- Elyse Cusack, P.K. Yonge

Second team

OH- Janine Williams, P.K. Yonge
OH- Christine Pinder, Buchholz
MB- Chloe Mann, Eastside
MB- Kittery Neale, Oak Hall
S- Jenny Neelands, Buchholz
S- Kristen Higbee, Oak Hall
Libero- Nicki Meyer, Buchholz

great idea and those teams look awesome but, what about an all-decade baseball team? we have had some great ones come through. Ryan Malone(PK) Jared Comstock(PK) Phillip Hurst(Suw) Hunter Abercrombie(Suw) Tony forgot his last name from Bucholz in 2000 there a lot of them

Kittery Neale should have been put on the first team, because she is just a natural born athlete in any sport she played, along with her respectful attitude. She just made good things happen when she was on the floor for any team she played for. Such a leader.

I would like to say if you are going to put someone like Christine Pinder on the team. She has to be a dominate player. Which she is not this year. She has not had a good season.

Denny, maybe we’ll do an all-decade baseball team during baseball season. We did the volleyball team during volleyball season.

Dibble, Kittery was an outstanding player (as was everyone on the teams). Who would you drop from the first team for her to replace?

Someone who goes by the name “Mom” is ripping a child in print? Nice…

You can’t put an all decade baseball team and fill it with kids from 1A school I will give you Malone, but look at the big schools in Gainesville…you have McQuade from buchholz who went to FSU and Woods from Buchholz that played at Florida and was a 1st team all state. Rick from palatka was another great player. Comstock is by far a stretch.
