John Patton has been The Sun’s high school sports editor since November of 1999. Prior to his hiring in Gainesville, Patton worked for The Miami Herald, where he covered everything from preps to the Miami Hurricanes, pro wrestling, horse racing, mixed martial arts, golf, tennis, NASCAR and all sports in between. Patton has either won or been a part of several awards while at The Sun. His work through the years also has been published in USA Today and the Boston Globe, among others. While not always right, Patton did call Tim Tebow “the best high school football player I have ever seen” when Tebow was just a junior at Ponte Vedra Beach Nease.
